Hey girl, hey! If you’re anything like me, you love a meal that’s quick, delicious, and satisfies the your husband and kids—without spending hours in the kitchen. Enter these Philly Cheesesteak Fries: a crispy, cheesy, protein-packed dream that checks all the boxes. This dish is my go-to when I want something indulgent but balanced, and best of all—it’s totally customizable.
I used to think that comfort food had to be “off-limits” when I was trying to lose weight. But after years of yo-yo dieting and struggling to find a balance, I realized that I can enjoy all my favorite foods while still hitting my goals—it’s all about how you make it! And this recipe? It’s proof that you don’t have to give up amazing food to make progress.
Why You’ll Love These Philly Cheesesteak Fries
- Quick & Easy – Ready in under 30 minutes!
- Customizable – Choose your favorite potato base and protein.
- Great for Meal Prep – Save time and have delicious leftovers.
- Made in the Air Fryer – That means crispy fries with less oil (and less mess!).
- High-Protein & Flavor-Packed – Keeps you full and satisfied.
Let’s Talk Potatoes: Choosing Your Base
This recipe is not just for crinkle-cut fries (though they’re an easy go-to). If you want to mix things up, here are some other potato options:
- Homemade French Fries – Slice up some russet potatoes, toss with a little oil, and air fry them for an extra crispy, homemade touch.
- Tater Tots – Crispy little pillows of joy that hold up beautifully under layers of cheesesteak goodness.
- Sweet Potato Fries – A slightly healthier and slightly sweeter option that pairs surprisingly well with the savory toppings.
- Baby Red Potatoes – Roast these in the air fryer for a fun twist that feels a little more gourmet.
Pro Tip: If you don’t have an air fryer yet, you NEED my Ninja Foodi 10-in-1 Air Fryer! It makes everything crispy with way less oil, and I seriously don’t know what I did before I got it. You can grab one here!
Not a Beef Fan? Try These Protein Variations!
While a classic sirloin cheesesteak is the star of this dish, you can totally switch things up:
- Chicken Philly Cheesesteak – Swap the beef for sliced grilled chicken or shredded rotisserie chicken for a leaner option.
- Shrimp Cheesesteak Fries – Yes, shrimp! Cook them in a skillet with a little garlic butter, then toss them on top for a seafood twist.
- Ground Turkey or Chicken – If you want something even leaner, sauté some seasoned ground turkey or chicken as your base.
Meal Prep Like a Boss
This recipe is meal-prep friendly, and you know I love a good time-saving hack! Here’s how you can prep ahead:
- Pre-cook Your Fries or Potatoes – Store them in an airtight container in the fridge and reheat in the air fryer for that fresh-out-the-oven crispiness.
- Cook Your Meat & Veggies in Advance – Sauté the peppers, onions, and your protein, then store them separately in these meal prep containers (they’re my absolute fave, and you can grab them here.
- Reheat & Assemble – When it’s time to eat, just reheat everything, layer it up, and add that gooey cheese dip.
Bonus Hack: If you love a crispy finish, pop the assembled dish back into the air fryer for a couple of minutes before serving!
Making It Macro-Friendly
I get it—sometimes you want a delicious meal and you want to keep things balanced. Here’s how you can tweak this recipe:
- More Protein? Add extra sirloin, chicken, or shrimp.
- Lower Carb? Swap the fries for roasted cauliflower or zucchini fries.
- Lower Fat? Use reduced-fat cheese and go easy on the oil for cooking.
The beauty of this meal is that you can make it work for YOU without sacrificing flavor.
